Outcry needed for Charge

Shot and killed while out on a jog. Two months for an arrest. When you’re a person of color any activity can be your last.  Let bygones be bygones. Let the past be the past. White people love to throw slavery and segregation under the bus. They love to dismiss it as a mistake of the past as if segregation did not end less than 100 years ago. How can we let the past go when the past shapes the future? What happened in the past can not be erased especially when the system created today was implemented to replace the chains on our hands and feet with invisible ones until they can actually lock a black man behind bars, until they can eradicate as many black people as possible under the pretense that were free.

A black man’s life is worthless in the eyes of the law and has been proven time and time again. Ahmaud Arbery was killed February 23, 2020 by a white father and son duo who pursued him during his daily jog and committed a modern day lynching by shooting him down in cold blood. Fortunately, the ordeal was caught on video because the release of the video launched an outcry of angry voices pleading for these men to be arrested. Angry protesters marched in the neighborhood where he was killed thus forcing the state to open it’s own investigation. While it is very saddening and truly disheartening to see another black man being killed, without this physical proof as well as the outcry of angry black voices a young black may have never received justice. Personally, I could not watch the entirety of the video. It made my skin crawl and it made me feel rage as well as hate and the most painful of all it made me feel trapped. What I mean by trapped is that for black Americans there just seems to be no escape from the injustices we receive in a country that we practically built.

One thing to take away from this is how important it is for us black people to band together because that is the only way we’re going to make anything happen. It took protesters and individuals calling everyone in charge demanding the immediate arrest of the duo for them to be charged. While Arbery body lay lifeless in the ground the bastards were probably living the time of their life’s thinking they were going to get away with the killing of a nigger. Undoubtedly our voices are what ultimately lead to an arrest otherwise the police would be twiddling their thumbs claiming they have no leads or their hands are tied. Keep fighting for each other that's one way to fight back against the system designed for us to fail.
